Technology writing and editing

Cheryl Berglund Coupe | Background

I've been writing and editing for Northwest technology companies since 1989.

A well-rounded geek, my experience ranges from software to semiconductors, embedded computers to test & measurement, motion control to electronic manufacturing services. My market experience is just as broad, including healthcare, industrial, telecommunications, electric power, test & measurement, discrete & process control, military, point-of-sale, consumer hardware & software and display technologies.

I’ve held positions in print production, marketing communications, public relations and investor relations, and on both the corporate side (Intel, Applied Microsystems, RadiSys) and agency side (MKTX and Waggener Edstrom), as well as freelancing. I have been editor-in-chief for several association newsletters, including the Software Association of Oregon, the Association for Corporate Growth, and the Oregon Bioscience Association and am currently the EE Catalog editor for Extension Media.
Unlike most writers, my background also includes years as a purchasing agent in high-tech. I understand what buyers want to know and how they want information organized and presented.

My articles have appeared in EE Times, Computer Design, Electronic Business, Microsoft Embedded Review, Windows Developer’s Journal, Machine Design and Earth Imaging Journal  among others. I've also prepared presentations and papers for engineers to present at Embedded Systems Conference, PC Developer’s Expo and the International Conference on Signal Processing Applications and Technologies (ICSPAT).

I've been a guest speaker at marketing classes for the Oregon Executive MBA program and the Portland State University MBA program. I also teach a half-day workshop on Writing for Technical Publications that has been offered through Portland State University’s Center for Excellence in Writing.

I received my bachelor's degree from Willamette University with a double major in math and French, and master of fine arts degree in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
