"You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can't get them across, your ideas won't get you anywhere."

Lee Iacocca

I bring a unique business perspective and background that set me apart from most writers

I’ve been your marketing/PR executive…

I've managed marketing communications, public relations, and investor relations, both in-house and within agencies. I know the challenges of high expectations and limited resources. My goal is to be the kind of resource I wanted to hire: someone who needs minimal guidance to take a project and run with it to completion. Someone who anticipates stumbling blocks and handles them so they don't impact delivery. Someone who can be trusted to interact professionally with executives, customers, and partners.

I've been your customer…

As a purchasing agent, I evaluated vendors and negotiated contracts for components to complex business services. I had to justify my choices to tough audiences of design engineers through C-level executives. The experience leaves me with little patience for marketing fluff. I'll help you communicate business value and technical edge so you can quickly answer your buyer's question: "What's in it for me?"

I’ve been the editor who gets your press releases and pitches.

As a technology editor, I received hundreds of press releases and article queries. I know what works—and what doesn't. I'll help you capture the attention of jaded media and influencers who want to know not just what you're announcing, but why they should care. I'll help you create content that drives to critical points quickly and succinctly, using the language of your intended audience to address their needs—and yours.

My technology background runs the gamut from automation and robotics, to healthcare IT and population health management, through a broad range of embedded computing technologies from smart home to military & aerospace. There's little in common in the topics I cover, except that they're typically complex concepts that require sophisticated messages for savvy audiences. But that's where I thrive—learning new things, developing new strategies, and writing content that inspires and changes minds.

I received a bachelor's degree from Willamette University with a double major in math and French, and an MFA in writing from Vermont College (now Vermont College of Fine Arts). I've been a guest speaker at marketing classes for the Oregon Executive MBA program and the Portland State University MBA program and have taught a variety of writing workshops.
